Our sightseeing also includes the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, the Imperial Palace, and the Roman Forum. Leaving Rome, we stop at the ancient city of Pompeii, destroyed and completely buried when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79AD. The excavation of the partially buried city has given great insight into early Roman life.Stunning SicilyOn our way to Palermo we stop at the charming seaside village of Cefalu and experience traditional Sicilian life. In Palermo, the capital of Sicily, we tour St John of the Hermits Church, the Norman Cathedral, and the Royal Palace. Our tour of Sicily includes a visit to Segesta with its well-preserved Greek Doric Temple located on top of a hill. We also visit the Valley of the Temples with its magnificent ancient structures dating back to the 5th century BC. These are the most sublime evidence of the Greek civilization in Sicily.Relax on the Mediterranean in MaltaOur final leg of the journey sees us exploring the fascinating country of Malta, with tours of Valletta and Gozo. We visit quaint shops and cafes, and some of Europe's finest churches and palaces, and also witness some splendid scenery.
